Read the texts about three teenagers who are learning a foreign language. For each question, choose the correct answer.
At the moment, I'm learning Arabic because I'd like to be a journalist one day, and being able to speak other languages is important for this job. It wasn't possible to learn Arabic at school, but a friend of mine knew a woman who could give me lessons and now she comes to my house twice a week. It was difficult at first because I was a complete beginner. But I worked hard and after just six months I was able to speak and write the language quite well, which I'm really happy about.
I've lived in lots of different countries because of my dad's career, so I've had to learn several different languages. I seem to learn them quite easily. The last place I lived was Thailand. I'm still studying the language so I can continue to chat with my Thai classmates now I'm back in my home country. I've downloaded a new app with exercises in Thai, and I can't wait to use it each morning because it's so much fun.
My mum comes from Russia and her parents still live there. We often stay with them during the school holidays, but unfortunately I didn't learn Russian when I was little so talking to them has always been hard. After our last trip I decided it was time for me to learn the language and I found a course at my local college – we work hard but the teacher makes us laugh. I think that's why I never forget any of the vocabulary she teaches us.

This summer, my parents and I had a holiday in Hollywood, an area in Los Angeles famous for its filmmaking. My mum and dad are journalists and sometimes work there, so they know the city really well.
Our hotel was near the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a famous pavement that has over 2,600 metal stars with the names of famous actors and singers on them. It's very popular with visitors. We walked along it every day, and I'm glad about that, as there were so many names to read!
The second day, we went on a tour at Universal Studios. This is a film studio where famous actors work, and it also has some exciting rides. The rides were good, but visiting the places where movies such as Jurassic Park were made was my favourite part of the tour.
On the third day, we went on the Rodeo Drive Tour. It's a bus tour to see famous people's houses. Actually, most of the homes were a really long way from the road or behind trees or gates, which is a pity. But the guide was so funny that I still enjoyed myself and the time went by very quickly.
For our final night, we watched a film at an outdoor theatre called the Hollywood Bowl. The Sound of Music is my dad's favourite film so I know the story and songs quite well, but I couldn't believe 17,500 other people wanted to watch it too. I had no idea it was so popular! It was certainly an experience I'll never forget.

Last week, I went to the Cartoon Museum with my mum. It's a small museum and we had to ask for directions because we got lost on our way there. When we finally got there, we walked around the various exhibitions, including one about the history of cartoons. The best part for me was joining a one-hour drawing class. An artist talked about his work and I did some cartoons of my own. It was a great little museum, but I saw most things, so I'm not planning to return.
I visited the Natural History Museum with my dad when I was younger, but this was my first visit on my own. I already knew about some of the stuff at the museum from lessons at school, but I was amazed at how much I enjoyed the exhibitions. My favourite one was the dinosaur exhibition. It was the busiest part of the museum and full of people, but I didn't mind that. I've been several times already, so I don't think I'll visit again.
I'm so glad my mum took me to the News Museum. It has exhibitions about the news and is different from most other museums because it's more about events than things. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to see everything, so I've already decided to go back. My favourite part was a special theatre showing short videos of interesting news reports. There was also an exhibition about photo-journalists and their work. I really enjoyed learning how they get such good pictures.

Earlier this year, my school in England decided to send a group of four students on a trip to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. I wanted to go but knew that many other students did too. I decided to put my name on the list of interested students and then forgot all about it. A few weeks later, I couldn't believe it when I heard I was in the group.
On the 10th of March, I flew from England to Florida with my classmates Toby, Alice, Chris and our teacher Mr Scott. At the Space Center there was so much to see and do, and we all took lots of photos. Mr Scott planned each day carefully. He also asked me to keep a blog of our experiences and Toby agreed to make a short film.
I learnt so much. We met engineers and astronauts who explained a lot about space travel. It was brilliant to be around people who shared my love of space. They were really helpful and told me what I needed to do to get a job with a space project.
When I got back to school, I had to give a talk about the trip to the other students. I enjoyed talking about the Space Center and was pleased that everyone liked my photos. I found it quite hard to remember everything I learnt about the planet Mars, however! My favourite part was answering students' questions at the end. It was fun sharing my experiences with everyone.

Last June my family and I went to France for our summer holiday. We spent two weeks at a campsite in the south of the country, near Marseilles. There was a beach not too far away but it was very crowded so I spent nearly all my time at the campsite pool, which was much nicer. I met some French kids there and we had a great time together. I really need to work hard on my French though, so that next time it will be easier to talk to people.
I'd always wanted to visit France, so I was really excited when my parents told me we were going to the city of Caen in the north of the country for our summer holidays last year. There were some lovely beaches not far from the city and we also went to an attractive indoor market, which sold everything from fish to flowers. It was wonderful. However, the best thing we did was a one-day cooking course. I've never cooked anything before and it was really fun!
My family always spend our summer holidays in the south of France, and last year we stayed at a campsite on a beach near Arles. I loved swimming in the sea and in the campsite pool. I also enjoyed using my French when we went shopping at the local market. My school friends would be amazed! Because my mum and dad are artists, they wanted to visit a museum about the painter, Van Gogh. Usually I don't like museums, but actually this one was really interesting.

When sisters Caroline and Isabel Bercaw were 11 and 12 years old, bath bombs (coloured balls that you add to your bath water to make it smell nice) suddenly became very popular. Caroline and Isabel often used them, especially after doing sports, and so did their friends. They all thought that the bath bombs made bath-time feel special.
Caroline and Isabel got so interested in bath bombs that they looked online and found some instructions for how to make their own. Their first ones weren't great, but they practised until their bath bombs were perfect. Then they had the clever idea of adding a surprise in the centre of each one, such as a small toy or a piece of jewellery.
When they had a big box of their new bath bombs, they agreed on a price, and then took them to a local market to find out if people wanted to buy them. The girls couldn't believe it when they sold all the bombs in just a few hours.
After that, they began to work hard on their business. They had a lot to learn, and asked for help whenever they needed it. They spoke to their teachers at school, called business owners, and of course talked to their parents. Soon, they were selling their bath bombs in shops all over their home town.
The business continued to grow and is now a big success. The girls think this is because of the little gift inside each bath bomb. This made their bombs exciting and fun to use, especially for young people.

I love our farm. From every window of our farmhouse, you can see beautiful countryside for miles. Of course, it's not a perfect life. There are always machines to repair, and farmers never get time off because the animals need them every day. That's the reason my family and I can't visit other countries in the summer. But what's fantastic is that you're never bored. My parents say the farm will be mine when I'm older, and I'm really happy about that.
Being a farmer is a hard life. There are so many jobs to do and most of them are quite boring. Also, farmers can't travel much and that's something I really want to do when I'm older. One thing I love is being up before the sun each day. That's when I feed the chickens. It's quiet then, with only the noise of the animals. When I was little, the cows looked so big. I always ran away when they came near me. It seems silly now.
My mum and dad are farmers. They often work from early morning until late at night, and always seem so tired. They do too much really, so I try to help if I can. One thing I'm good at is helping Dad when the farm machines break – it's a great feeling to get them working again. In fact, I'd like to be a mechanic when I leave school. However, I want to continue living in the countryside because I love all the animals.

Sisters Melati and Isabel live on the Indonesian island of Bali. Bali is very popular with tourists, who go there for its beautiful beaches. Unfortunately, as Melati and Isabel know, the beaches aren't always as clean as everyone would like. This is because the sea brings in rubbish, just as it does in many countries.
A few years ago, Melati and Isabel's school teacher told them about people who helped make important changes in other countries. The girls thought about changes they could make in Bali, and as they loved going to their local beach with their parents, they agreed that trying to clean it up was a good idea.
One of the biggest problems on Bali's beaches was plastic bags. Melati and Isabel learnt that some countries don't allow companies to make or sell plastic bags anymore. 'We thought, "If they can do that, well, Bali can, too,"' explains Melati. 'So we started a group and called it Bye Bye Plastic Bags.'
Bye Bye Plastic Bags began as a small group of people who went out and cleaned beaches. But then journalists started writing about the group, so more people heard about the idea and thought it was important. Now, plastic bags aren't allowed in Bali anymore.
People in other countries have taken the girls' idea and started their own Bye Bye Plastic Bags groups. Now, the sisters want to help those people by telling them everything they have learnt. That way, more and more young people can help make the world a cleaner place.

Boy: Are we having sandwiches for our family lunch on the beach, Mum?
Mum: We usually do that, I know. Why don't we have a barbecue this time?
Boy: Or perhaps some fish and chips at the café there? They always smell fantastic.
Mum: You're right, but that'll be quite expensive for eight of us.
Boy: OK. Your idea sounds good.

Boy: This term I'm doing volleyball for the first time. How about you?
Girl: I really enjoy volleyball – you will too. But my teacher's put my name on the list for hockey, and I'm not sure I'll like it.
Boy: Maybe not. I think basketball's a good sport for you. You're tall and run really fast.
Girl: Well, perhaps I can do that another term!

Matt: Shall we work on our project together at the city library this afternoon, Bella?
Bella: OK, Matt, but before that I've got to collect my new glasses from the shop.
Matt: That's no problem – because then we can go to that café next door. They sell great cakes.
Bella: Good idea. And it's only ten minutes to walk to the library from there.

Uncle Jack: You're looking well, Amy! Are you still riding your bike to school?
Amy: Well, it's really good exercise for me, Uncle Jack, I know, but it's hard in winter. So I've started leaving home early and walking there. I caught the bus once, but it was so noisy!
Uncle Jack: The bus is much faster.
Amy: But slower than by bike actually.

Girl: What shall we get Mum for her birthday this year? Well, she loved the necklace we got her last year. How about some other jewellery? I saw some nice silver earrings at the market.
Boy: Mm. That's not a bad idea. Or we could buy a bracelet?
Girl: She doesn't often wear those.
Boy: OK, then. Let's get what you suggested.

You will hear a girl called Mandy leaving a phone message for a friend about spending Sunday at the beach.
Mandy: Hi, I'm ringing about going to the beach on Sunday. There's no train that day, but there's a bus which stops outside the beach café, so we're getting that. I wanted to take my guitar but Mum says no – so bring your kite instead please.
Mandy: For lunch, we're going to have a picnic. My mum doesn't like eating on the beach but there's a park. We'll eat there and perhaps go to the shopping centre afterwards for half an hour.
Mandy: Last time we were at the beach, we had a football match, remember? This time I've booked for us to play volleyball! It'll be fun. We can go on a boat trip too. A ticket is usually four pounds fifty, but there's a discount on Sunday and it's only three seventy-five. That's nearly a pound cheaper.
Mandy: You're invited to dinner at my house. We'll leave the beach at quarter past five. Then we'll be back at my place at six thirty which is great because my family usually eat at quarter to seven. Bye!

You will hear two friends, Ned and Aisha, talking about their first week at a new school.
Aisha: So, Ned. What did you think of our first week at the new school?
Ned: OK. I'm so happy we sat next to each other in our first class, Aisha. We live in the same street so I'm surprised we haven't met before.
Aisha: Yes, and lunchtime was fun.
Ned: Did you feel a bit worried before you started at the new school?
Aisha: I felt excited actually.
Ned: Me too. Not scared at all. My brother says we're lucky because it's an awesome school.
Aisha: Well, the building doesn't look great.
Ned: I know, but all the kids in our class are lovely.
Aisha: Most are but not everyone. But I like all our teachers. They do lots to help us.
Ned: That's true. Which subject do you like best?
Aisha: In my old school it was maths but geography's my favourite now. History's the only subject I don't enjoy much.
Ned: The only thing I don't like is homework. It takes at least two hours every evening.
Aisha: Really? I only spend an hour. It's not usually very difficult.
Ned: Well, we didn't get so much in my old school.
Aisha: We got very little at mine as well.

Jake: Could you bring something with you? Remember you borrowed my gloves that day when it was really cold? Can I have them back, please? You can keep the hat I lent you – I've got lots of those.

You will hear Carlos talking to his grandmother about the school sports teams he and his classmates are in. Which team is each person in?
Granny: Are there many sports teams at your school, Carlos?
Carlos: Yes, Granny. I wanted to be in the cycling team, but there weren't any places, so I joined the football team. It's fun.
Granny: And your sister Sofia? She's good at sports where you hit the ball, like hockey.
Carlos: Yeah, but it's the basketball team she plays for.
Granny: Oh. And what about your friend Aidan?
Carlos: He's bought a racket and loves using that. I was surprised, because he's tall enough to play basketball, but the team is full! Do you know my neighbour, Tina?
Granny: The one I sometimes see riding her bicycle?
Carlos: Yes. Well, she loves being in the pool. She wins lots of races.
Granny: That's good. And she has a brother, doesn't she?
Carlos: Yeah. Nick. The sports teacher wanted him to join the hockey team, but he prefers volleyball! He's really good at that.
Granny: And your friend Katrina?
Carlos: She joined a new team called 'Fast wheels'! It's perfect for her because she goes everywhere by bike. She wanted to be in the basketball team too, but she doesn't have time.
Granny: It's great that you all do sports.

Boy: OK, great idea! I've never had one there. And I will probably have a salad tonight anyway.

Boy: Where's Calum having his birthday party? He was talking about having a pool party at the sports centre.
Girl: Oh? Last time I spoke to him, he wanted to have a barbecue in his garden.
Boy: Oh, yes, you're right! He asked us to bring something to eat.
Girl: Yeah. I'm taking some burgers. He always has those when we go to the café.

Girl: Do you still want to go and see a film tomorrow?
Boy: Yeah! Shall I meet you outside the cinema? I'll get the tram.
Girl: Why don't I meet you at your tram stop when you get off, instead? It's always busy at the cinema.
Boy: Good idea. The stop's just round the corner from the library.
Girl: Great! See you there at three thirty.

You will hear a teacher telling his class about an art competition.
Teacher: Hello everyone. I want to tell you about our next school art competition. All students who are aged between eleven and sixteen can enter the competition. Not just students in our year who are nearly all thirteen.
Teacher: Now, the title for everyone's painting must be Buildings. These can be ones you know, like houses in our town. Or perhaps ones you've never visited like castles or palaces.
Teacher: You can give your painting to the art teacher from the ninth of May, but you must give it to her by the eighteenth. And you'll learn who has won the competition on the twentieth of May.
Teacher: We're lucky that a very special person will choose the winner. His name's Jacob Fossley. His surname's spelled F-O-double S-L-E-Y if you want to read about him online. He lives in our town and he's a famous photographer.
Teacher: And the prize? Not a laptop like the prize for the last competition, but a skateboard! This is because it's the most popular hobby at school!

Martha: That's nice.
Dan: You didn't go swimming, Martha. Didn't you take your swimming things?
Martha: I did, but it was such a cold day.
Dan: It was fine when I was in the water. But it was deep.
Martha: Oh, that's never a problem for me. I loved having the barbecue by the water.
Dan: I thought it was a bit dirty there actually.
Martha: Really? I didn't. But we had to leave so early.
Dan: I know. And people weren't bored... everyone was having such a great time.
Martha: Yeah.

Teacher: You'll need to be at school by eight thirty as the coach goes at eight forty-five. We hope to arrive at the factory around nine forty-five. There's no need to take lunch – we'll have it there in the cafeteria, but please bring your notebooks and remember to leave your phones at home for the day. You can't take them into the factory.

Mum: What did you think of Sophie's bedroom?

Mum: Not like you at all! Did you see her brother Leo's bedroom?
Anna: Yeah. He's got lots of space, but I didn't think his room was very comfortable.
Mum: And what about the kitchen?
Anna: We didn't stay in there long, because it wasn't very warm. Sophie's mum says they're going to change it. She wants a more modern kitchen.
Mum: What's the living room like?

Mum: That's good.
Anna: And just before I left, I saw the bathroom. I've never seen one like that before. The colours are so strange.
Mum: It sounds like you saw the whole house!

What do you will do tomorrow? Do you want to go to the cinema with me?
Then I am thinking of watching a horror film. You can enjoy eating that food you want.
Hi Jay,
What are you going to1 do tomorrow? Do you want to go to the cinema with me?
I'm thinking of2 watching a new3 horror film. I know you love scary stories, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it.4 And we can get popcorn at the cinema too!5
There is a new movie in the cinema called "Attack Crocodiles" and I found out that this Saturday they are putting it in the cinema at 5.30pm. Would you like to come with me?
You will like it very much because I know you love crocodiles and action movies.
You tell me ...
Jay,
There's a new film on at the cinema1 called Attack Crocodiles, and I found out it's on2 this Saturday at 5.30 pm. Would you like to come with me?
I think you'll love it3 because I know you're crazy about4 crocodiles and action movies.
Let me know!5
官方点评(满分卷):三点全部清楚,读者信息完整;组织好、连接清晰(and, because);词汇对题且偶有亮点(found out, action movies);语法形式多样且基本准确(There is, Would you like to, You will like it, I know you love)。唯一小瑕疵是第二句偏长,可拆成两句。

One day in the park,1 a man and a woman were playing with a ball, but it got stuck in2 the tree. The man climbed the tree and took3 the ball down.4 Then5 they continued playing with the6 ball.
官方点评:三幅图都写到了,但结尾与图 3 不完全吻合(图上并没有再踢球的画面)。衔接基本但恰当(They, but, and, Later);词汇有一定范围(playing with a ball, climbed, take);语法形式多样且大多准确(They were playing, The man climbed),少量小错(he take, playing with ball)不影响理解。
When a boy was in the park, he made a friend. They1 both started to play with a ball, but it got stuck in a big tree.
One of the boys climbed up2 the tree to get the ball back,3 so they could go back to playing.
官方点评(满分卷):三幅图齐全,读者信息完整;用了一系列连接词和指代(When, he, and, but, One of, so);词汇好(made a friend, it got stuck, climbed, go back to)且基本无误。
(What do you will do tomorrow, that food you want),意思仍能看懂。
